Socotra Island Safety
Safety on the Island of Socotra
The island, despite being part of Yemen, has long been considered a safe destination for travelers. Thanks to its geographical isolation and specific status, the island is completely outside the armed conflicts affecting the mainland. Tourism on Socotra is organized and well controlled, in cooperation with local authorities and licensed guides. The security situation on the island is fully overseen by the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, which ensure monitoring of the airspace as well as political stability in the region. Owing to this international oversight, the island has enjoyed long-term peace and stability.
Why Socotra is safe:
• The island is isolated and stable, with no armed conflicts
• Local residents are very friendly, hospitable, and respectful
• Tourist groups are small and well organized
• Travel takes place with local guides and drivers
• Tourism has operated safely here for many years
There are no riots on the island and crime is almost zero. Socotra is an exceptional and at the same time safe destination, suitable even for clients who normally avoid exotic countries for security reasons. Travel to the island is standard and without extraordinary security restrictions.
According to the recommendations of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other states, Socotra has been on the list of non-recommended destinations for more than 15 years and will most likely continue to be on the list of non-recommended destinations, despite the minimal risks it is still considered part of Yemen. This fact should be completely clear to every traveler before traveling. This status is inextricably linked to remoteness, limited infrastructure and certain discomfort that simply belong to a trip to Socotra.
Socotra is not an ordinary holiday destination. It is intended for those who are fully aware of the context of the place, respect its specifics and accept the reality of traveling to one of the most remote areas of the world.
And that's exactly what I experienced during the whole week spent on the island of Socotra. A harsh, mystical place, full of breathtaking nature, beautiful, cheerful, modest, friendly, humble and poor people who can rejoice in the truly little.......
I don't write reviews. It bothers me that everyone asks for them and I'm a rather introverted person and I would rather share my experiences in person than go into detail somewhere and explain why this or that was great or not so great :-D
However, the trip to Socotra organized by Socotra Exclusive Tours was so interesting that I decided to write a review.....
